Nutrient Broth  Nº2 is used for the general cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms. It is also used as a general use medium, rich in nutrients, that allows the growth of bacteria when there is a low quantity of inocula and fastodious pathogenic microorganisms. It can also be used for sterility testing of aerobic organisms. The medium is particularly suitable for subculture, especially as a secondary growth medium for staphylococci to be tested for coagulase production. Gelatin peptone and Beef extract provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential for growth. Sodium chloride supplies essential electrolytes for transport and osmotic balance.
