Semidolid Nutrient Agar is recommended for the serological confirmation by the antigen H of Salmonella spp. Besides, Semisolid Nutrient Agar is recommended for detection of Salmonella species on the basis of motility. Motile organisms like e.g. Salmonella show a diffuse zone of growth spreading out from the stab inoculum line. Non-motile organisms grow only along the line. Beef Extract and peptones provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential for growth. The bacteriological agar is the solidifying agent which provides in this case a semisolid base suitable for the serological H confirmation.
