Carbohydrates Utilization Broth is a recommended media for the confirmation of L. monocytogenes by the carbohydrate fermentation tests. Beef extract and proteose peptone provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential for growth. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance. Bromocresol purple is the pH indicator. The carbohydrate utilization test and other confirmation methods for L. monocytogenes are recommended by ISO 11290. The presumed colonies are previously inoculated in non-selective agars such as Blood Agar  Nº 2 (Cat. 1328), where beta hemolysis is observed. Possible positive reactions will change the color of the tubes to yellow. Negative results will keep the medium in purple.
