Salt Egg Yolk Agar Base is a medium used for the isolation of pathogenic Staphylococci. Infusion Heart Broth provides nitrogen, vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential for growth. Lithium chloride is the selective agente that inhibits most microorganisms other than staphylococci. D-Mannitol is the carbohydrate energy source. Sodium chloride supplies essential electrolytes for transport and osmotic balance. Bacteriological agar is the solidifying agent.
