Potato Dextrose Broth is a liquid medium used for cultivating yeasts and molds. It can be used for the growth of clinically significant yeasts and molds from foods and dairy products. This general purpose medium can be supplemented with acid or antibiotics to inhibit bacterial growth. The nutritionally rich base (potato infusion) encourages a very rich fungal and mold growth. Dextrose is the fermentable carbohydrate as carbon and energy source. The low pH of this medium inhibits bacterial growth.
